Headache
The most common type of pain that humans experience
Headache pain can arise from both
intracranial and extracranial sources
Primary headaches
Those not caused by a disease or another medical condition
Primary headache classifications include
tension-type, migraine, and cluster headaches
Secondary Headache
caused by another condition or disorder, such as sinus infection, neck injury, and stroke
Tension-type headache
(Stress headache) The most common type of headache.
Tension-type headache characterized by
Bilateral location and pressing or tightening quality
Parkinson’s Disease
Caused by decreased levels of dopamine into the brain that lead to resting tremors, rigidity, bradykinesia, and a shuffling gait.
Clinical Manifestations of Tension-type headache
Bilateral frontal-occipital headache described as a constant, dull pressure, or bandlike headache associated with neck pain and increased tone in the cervical and neck muscles.
-Sensitivity to light (Photophobia) and sound
Prodrome
Early manifestation of impending disease
Migraine headache
Recurring headache characterized by unilateral (sometimes) bilateral throbbing pain, a triggering event or factor, and manifestations
