Ch. 4 Muscle Tissue Flashcards
1
Q
Muscle Tissue
A
Highly cellular, well-vascularized tissue that functions to produce movement.
Called muscle cells
Contain internal myofilaments (actin and myosin) for contraction.
3 types of Muscle Tissue:
Skeletal muscle
Cardiac muscle
Smooth muscle
2
Q
Actin and myosin
A
Controls the contractions
3
Q
Skeletal Muscle
A
Voluntary: Striations, due to A & M, multi nucleated, long rod like shape.
4
Q
Cardiac Muscle
A
Involuntary: Location is the heart, intercalated discs- gap junction, striated , cells Y branched (aware like contraction instead of whole heart).
5
Q
Smooth Muscle
A
Involuntary: Wall of hollow organs (stomach, intestines, blood vessels, etc.) Not striated, Spindle shaped cells.
