Ch 21: Developing An Evidence-based Practice Flashcards
Knowledge-focused triggers
Research ideas generated when staff members read research or encounter EIP guidelines
Knowledge translation
The process by which knowledge moves from where it was first created to where it has to get to in order to make an impact on clinical practice
Opinion leaders
A person in the organization that other workers look go, and whose opinion people listen to
Problem-focused triggers
Research ideas identified by staff through quality improvement, risk surveillance, or recurrent clinical problems
Translation science
Research that studies how evidence-based interventions are translated to real-world clinical settings
Conceptual use of knowledge
Influences the thinking of the clinician but not necessarily the action
Decision-driven use of research
Application as a part of new practice
Barriers to implementing evidence into practice
Time, lack of EIP skills/mentors, too focused on research itself vs implementation, lack of support in organizations, resistance from colleagues
Knowledge translation steps
- Research question
- Research planning and design
- Data collection and analysis
- Tailoring and telling others about results
- Changing practice
- Re-evaluate and sustain knowledge
