Ch. 20 Oxygenators Flashcards
1
Q
Bubble Oxygenators
A
first in 1955 with DeWall and Lilehei
-poor gas control, micro emboli, goes through defoamer
2
Q
Membrane Oxygenators (3 components)
A
first by Lillehei and Lande
cool/warm, remove CO2
no direct gas blood interface
-venous res, oxygenator, Heat exchanger
3
Q
Venous Bag
A
- hard to remove air
- no vacuum
- fuller the bag= increasing the resistance= less venous drainage***
4
Q
3 types of membrane oxygenators
A
1) rolled flat plate (silicone)- ECMO, long term use
2) flat plate
3) hollow fiber (polypropylene)= BEST= gas through fibers, blood on outside
5
Q
Gas Transfer Rate formula
A
Gas Transfer Rate= Driving Pressure x Permeability
- driving- difference of pressure across membrane
- totally undefended of other gases
