Ch 17: Drugs of the Nervous and Sensory System Flashcards
The Nervous and Sensory System
The brain the spinal cord and the nerves, this system controls and integrates many of the bodies activities, involves voluntary actions, feelings, or autonomic , allows the body to change to conditions outside as well as inside the body
Central Nervous System (CNS)
Brain and spinal cord
Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
Cranial and spinal nerves and peripheral components of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS)
Neurons
consist of a cell body, an axion and several dendrites axions contains the nucleus and the cytoplasm dendrites receive the cell signal and send the impulses through the body
Neuroliglia
support protect and nourish the neuron
Sympathetic Nervous System
Under conditions of stress, it produces epinephrine speeding up the heart and raising the blood pressure the bronchial tubes dilate and allow more oxygen to enter the body and the digestive system is slowed down. also called the fight or flight system
Parasympathetic Nervous Symptoms
Restores and Conserves body energy and brings the body back to normal conditions

Spasticity
Vertigo
Dizziness
Paralysis
inability to move
Stupor
being in a “daze”
Insomnia
