Freud

Part of mind that contains material of which we are unaware but strongly influences our behavior
Freudian slip
Accidentally say things that are sexual
Id
Unconscious system of personality. Instinct- meeting wants and needs w/o thinking
Ego
Conscious division of personality that attempts to mediate between the demands of the id superego and reality.
Superego
Division of personality that contains the conscience and develops by incorporating the perceived moral standards of society
MMPI
Test consists of 567 statement to which a person can respond true, false, or cannot say. Used to identify depression, anxiety, paranoia, deviance and psychological disorder
Projection
When people disguise their own threatening impulses by attributing them to others.
Rationalization
Defense mechanism that offers a self-justifying explanations in place of the real, more unconscious reasons for ones actions
Collective unconscious
Carl June’s concept of a shared, inherited reservoir of memory graces from our species history.
Rorschach Inkblot Test
Projective test: Test consists of 10 cards w Inkblot designs and a system for interpreting responses. 5 are gray and black, 2 red splotches, 3 mixture of different colors
TAT–the thematic apperception test
Projective test: in which people express their inner feelings and interest through the stories they make up ambiguous scenes.
