Ch 14 Anti-inflammatory Flashcards
Physiologic
beneficial, can allow animal to avoid damaging stimuli
Pathologic
results from tissue or nerve damage and may be further classified according to origin, severity, or duration
Visceral
arises from organs / body cavities
Somatic
arises from musculoskeletal pain
Neuropathic
arises due to injury to a nerve, either peripheral or central
Acute
sudden onset and is generally sharp and associated with tissue damage
Chronic
persists beyond the normal healing time or associated with progressive disease where healing has not occurred
Analgesia
the inability to feel pain without the loss of consciousness and without the loss of movement
Anesthesia
the inability to feel anything, with or without the loss of consciousness
Four steps of the production of pain sensation
- Transduction
- Transmission
- Modulation
- Perception
Local signs of inflammatory
- pain
- heat
- swelling
- redness
When inflammation continues beyond the initial
response, it becomes
pathologic
Inflammation Can lead to:
- bronchoconstriction
- anaphylactic shock
- pain
4.intestinal spasm
Proactive
understanding when pain may be present, taking proactive steps to assess for pain and educating team/ owner about pain assessment
Preemptive
administering analgesics prior to the start of surgery / starting treatments early in diseases that cause chronic pain
