Linear model
Sender encodes ideas and feelings into a message and conveys them to a receiver who decodes them.
Transactional model
Both sending and receiving are simultaneous. Face to face communication is a two way affair. i.e.: you tell friend about love life and they yawn
Interpersonal communication
Communicating with ones self
Didactic communication
Two people interacting, face to face or through technology
Small group communication
Family group, athletic team, group of co workers, class project etc
Organizational communication
When a larger more permanent collection of ppl collectively to achieve goals i.e. Commercials, charities, political groups, health related (doctors office), and recreational (sports league)
Public communication
When a group becomes too large for the whole group to contribute
Mass communication
Messages transmitted to large, widespread audiences via electronic and print media
Web 2.0
How Internet has gone from one-way medium (like old style publishers and broadcasters) into two-way like social networking i.e. Contributing post on tumblr or Twitter not only consuming but creating content on the internet
Synchronous communication
Occurs in real time, in person communication
Asynchronous communication
When there’s a time gap in between messages sent and when it’s received i.e. Voicemail and email etc
