CF & E Flashcards
What are the three articulations of the elbow
radiocapitular
humeroulnar
proximal radio-ulnar
What does the radial collateral ligament resist?
varus stress
from the inside out, medial to lateral
What does the ulnar collateral ligament resist?
valgus stress
lateral to medial
What does the anular ligament do?
holds the radius in place, but it never adheres to radius - ulna only
If you flex in a supinated hand position what muscle are you using?
biceps brachii
If you flex in a neutral position what muscle are you using?
brachioradialis
If you flex in a pronated position what muscle are you using?
brachialis
What are the branches of the brachial a.?
deep brachial a.
superior ulnar collateral
inferior ulnar collateral
(terminates into radial and ulnar aa.)
What are the branches of the deep brachial a.?
middler collateral
radial collateral
What are the branches of the ulnar a.?
anterior ulnar recurrent
posterior ulnar recurrent
common interosseous
What are the branches of the common interosseous
anterior interosseous
posterior interosseous
What is the branch of the posterior interosseous?
interosseus recurrent
What is the branch of the radial a.?
radial recurrent
What anastomoses with the superior ulnar collateral?
Posterior ulnar recurrent
What anastomoses with the inferior ulnar collateral?
anterior ulnar recurrent
What anastomoses with the middle collateral?
interosseous recurrent
What anastomoses with the radial collateral?
radial recurrent
What would be the most ‘ideal’ place to cut your brachial a.?
right before it splits into radial and ulnar–you will still have blood flow from its branches
What muscles of the forearm does the ulnar nerve innervate?
flexor carpi ulnaris
1/2 of flexor digitorum profundus (digits 4 and 5)
What are the borders of the cubital fossa?
M: pronator teres m.
L: brachioradialis m.
S: line between epicondyles
Floor: brachialis and supinator mm.
Roof: antebrachial fascia
What are the contents of the cubital fossa from lateral to medial?
biceps brachii tendon
brachial a.
median n.
What is nursemaid’s elbow?
When your radius pops out of its anular ligament
Why use the median cubital vein for venipuncture?
usually everyone has one
it runs at an angle so it won’t roll away from needle
no valve in the vein
