cervical cancer/neoplasia Flashcards
average age for cervical cell carcinoma
45
80% of cervical carcinomas are
squamous cell carcinomas
characterized by proliferation of glandular epithelium composed of malignant endocervical cells with large hyperchromatic nuclei and relatively mucin depleted cytoplasm
adenocarcinoma of the cervix
a neoplasia with a high viral profliferation and low cellular proliferation
LSIL
a neoplasm with a low viral count/proliferation and a high cellular proliferation
HSIL
LSIL –> carcinoma?
no. most cases regress spontaneously.
HSILs –> carcinoma?
considered high risk for progression to carcinoma
upper cells will express markers Ki-67
LSIL morphology biomarker
overexpression of p16
LSIL morphology biomarker
HPV and LSIL/HSIL
100% HSIL; 80% LSIL (20% de novo)
nests/tongues of malignant cell epithelium, keratinizing and non-keratinizing
