Cerebellum Flashcards
Describe the pathway for preplanning movement
Lateral hemisphere - dentate nucleus - superior pedincle - (VL) thalamus - cerebral cortex
Describe the pathway for motor execution via the paravermal cortex
Paravermal cortex - globose and emboliform nuclei - superior peduncle - red nucleus - lateral descending pathways
Describe the pathway for motor execution via the vermis
Vermis - fastigial nucleus - inferior peduncle - medial descending pathways
Describe the pathway for posture and balance and eye movement coordination
Flocculonodular lobe - fastigial nucleus - inferior peduncle - vestibular nuclei + reticular formation
What cells are lost in niemman pick disease type C?
Purkinje cells
What artery is damage in cerebellum stroke syndrome?
Superior cerebellar artery
What is nystagmus?
Jerky eye movements
Describe the pathway for unconcsious proprioception
Spinal cord - spinocerebellar tract - ipsilateral input - anterior lobe and vermis
Describe the pathway for reflex and balance
Vestibular nuclei (medulla) - vestibulocochlear tract - anterior lobe and vermis
Describe the pathway for learning and timing of movement
Inferior olive - olivocerebllar tract - climbing fibres - Purkinje fibres - cerebelar hemispheres
What type of damage is cerebellar damage?
Ipsilateral (double crossing to motor neuron)
What are the symptoms of cerebellar damage?
- Hypotonia
- Intention termor
- Overshoot (dysteria)
- Ataxia
- Nystagmus
- Dysdiadochoknesis
- Cognitive speech
