Cells facts Flashcards
What are cells
Cells are the basic building blocks of all living things.
What do human cells do
They provide structure for the body, take in nutrients from food, then convert those nutrients to energy
Where do you find cells?
In every living thing
What do red blood cells do?
They carry oxygen to the body’s tissues in exchange for carbon dioxide.
How many pairs of chromosome cells have.
23 pairs ( half mum half dad)
What does the nucleus do?
Controls everything the cell does. Contains all the information to produce a new living organism.
What does cytoplasm do?
Where chemical reactions take place.
A group of cells carrying out the same job is called
Tissue
What does cell membrane do?
Controls what passes in and out of the cell.
What does cell wall do?
Made of cellulose, which gives a plant cell strength and support .
What’s a vacuole?
Contains a weeks solution of salt and sugar, called cell sap.
What’s chloroplasts?
Contains a green substance called chlorophyll. This absorbs the suns energy so that the plant can make its own food by photosynthesis.
Why do palisade cells contain so many chloroplasts?
To absorb sunlight for photosynthesis.
A red blood cell is an animal cell, but what feature does it not have that all other animals cells have?
Nucleus
What is the function of the red blood cell?
Carry oxygen
