Breathing Process Flashcards
Where is air breathing in and out of?
Nose and mouth
After air enters your nose or mouth, where does it go down?
It goes down the trachea.
Trachea also known as windpipe, is a tube that connects the larynx to the bronchi of the lungs
After entering the trachea, where does it go?
It goes into the bronchi.
What does bronchi do?
While its the trachea job to conduct air from the nose and mouth to the lungs, it is the bronchi’s job to distribute the air throughout the lungs until reaching the bronchioles and alveoli sacs.
After entering the bronchi, where does it go?
Enters the bronchioles.
After the bronchioles where does it go?
Alveoli
What does the bronchioles do?
They deliver air to the exchange surfaces of the lungs?
Where does the air go after entering alveoli ?
Capillaries give out its co2 then picks up oxygen from the alveoli.
When we inhale does the pressure in our lungs decrease or increase?
When we inhale the pressure inside our lungs decreases.
When we exhale does the pressure in our lungs decrease or increase?
When we exhale the pressure inside our lungs increases.
When we breathing in, does our rib cage move upwards then downwards or the other way round?
When we inhale our rib cage moves up then down. ( the other way round only when we exhale)
What does glucose + oxygen turn to?
We need oxygen because cells in our body need to respirate so glucose + oxygen ➡️ water + co2.
How does the diaphragm move?
When u breathe in the diaphragm gets pulled down
When u breathe out the diaphragm relaxes (as well as the intercostal muscles) and moves down.
When u breathe in..
The ribs move up and out pulled by the intercostal muscles.
Diaphragm moves down
Volume increases
Pressure decreases
(Causing air to come rushing into the lungs.
When you breathe out…
The intercostal muscles relax and the rib moves down and in. Diaphragm moves up Volume decreases Pressure increases (Air is forced out of the lungs)
