Q

Enzymes shape

A

Enzymes work by being a particular shape, so they will only fit and digest a particular food type.
Different enzymes are for different shapes.
They work best at body temperature
If temperature or PH not right for the enzyme it changes shaoe and no longer works. (Denatured)

Q

Absorption in digestion system…

A

The small intestine is where the digested food is absorbed into the blood. The blood then transports digestives products around the body.
The small intestine is well suited for digestion.

The large intestine absorbs water and salts from the material that has not been digested as food, and get rid of any waste produces left over.

9
Q

Why is the small intestine good for absorption?

A

Has thin lining
Good blood supply
Large surface area
(The large surface area is provided by the villi (single=villus) that extend from the inside of the small intestine wall.)

Q

Villi job…

A

The small intestine contains the villi and the villi absorbs the amino acid/ sugars/ glycerol/ fatty acids.
Blood arriving at the villi to pick up food molecules.
Blood leaves villi takes food molecules to the rest of the body.

Q

What does the pancreas do?

A

The pancreas produces enzymes: carbohydrate, protease and lipase enzymes.
They connect to the stomach and break down the starch, fat and sugars.

16
Q

The liver…

A

The liver produces bile which neutralizes stomach acids so that the enzyme in the stomach can work properly.

17
Q

What’s a duodenum?

A

It connects the stomach to the small intestine.

18
Q

What does the Small intestine do?

A

This is where digestion is completed and dissolved food is absorbed into the bloodstream by the villi.

19
Q

What does the large intestine do?

A

Large intestine receives any food that has not been absorbed into the blood. Water and salt are removed from the food. The remaining solid food is turned into faeces.

20
Q

Where does the faeces go when it comes out of the large intestine?

A

The rectum.

21
Q

What does the rectum do?

A

Rictus is where the faeces is stored before they leave the body via the anus.

22
Q

What 3 things that are part of digestion does the food not pass through?

A

Liver, pancreas, gall bladder.
