Cells Flashcards
Cell membrane
the partially permeable membrane is made of of very thin layers of protein fat, it separates the interior of the cell from the outside environment, cell membrane regulates the transport of materials entering and exiting the cell.
Cytoplasm
Clear jelly, Mostly all water covers about 70% of the cell, many different metabolic reactions. It contains tiny structure known as organelles
Vacuoles
A space in a cell surrounded by a membrane, in plants the large vacuoles contain a solution called cell sap and in animals, vesicles, a much smaller bound membrane is present, which may contain food or water.
Chloroplasts
The chloroplast, found only in algal and plant cells, is a cell organelle that produces energy through photosynthesis, it has chlorophyll, which absorbs sunlight to help in photosynthesis.
Nucleus
the nucleus is a membrane-bound organelle that contains genetic material (DNA)
Mitochondria
Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell, using oxygen to release energy from glucose (aerobic respiration).
Organ
Organs are made up of several working tissue groups, to perform an specific task (heart, Kidney)
Organ system
when a group of organs works together to perform a specific task creates an organ system.

Cell wall
It is made up of cellulose. Animals don not have cells walls, only plants does. It supports the cell and as it is also fully permeable.
Ribosomes
tiny dots attached to a network of membranes called the rough endoplasmic reticulum, that runs throughout the cytoplasm. Ribosomes creates protein by joining amino acids together according to the instruction of the DNA.
Tissues
Tissue are a group of cells joined together, they carry out the same function for ex: the tissues lining up your stomach, makes enzymes to digest food.
