Cells Flashcards
What happens at the mitochondria ?
Mitochondria is where most of the reactions for respiration take place. This releases energy which the cell needs to work
What happens at the ribosomes?
Ribosomes are where proteins are made in the cell. (Protein synthesis)
What is the cytoplasm?
gel-like substance where most of the chemical reactions happen. It contains enzymes that control these chemical reactions.
Why do plant cells have a rigid cell wall made of cellulose?
It supports the cell and strengthens it
What does the permanent vacuole contain?
Contains cell Sap, a weak solution of sugar and salts
describe chloroplasts
These are where photosynthesis occurs, which makes food for the plant. They contain a green substance called chlorophyll
Yeast is a single-celled organism. What 4 features does it have?
Nucleus
Cytoplasm
Cell membrane
Cell wall
Bacteria cells are single-celled microorganisms. What 3 features does it have?
Cytoplasm
Cell membrane
Cell wall
No nucleus
Describe the nucleus
The nucleus contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell
