Cells Flashcards
Which is bigger Eukaryotes or Prokaryotes?
Eukaryotes.
What are the differences between eukaryotes and prokaryotes?
Eukaryotes:
- Nucleus
- Mitochondria
Prokaryotes:
- Loose DNA
- Plasmid
What is a plasmid?
A closed loop of DNA.
What features are only found in plant cells?
- Chloroplasts
- Vacuole
- Cell wall
Where are plant stem cells found?
In meristem tissue.
What are the three stages of the cell cycle?
- Interphase
- Mitosis
- Cytokinesis
What happens in interphase?
DNA and structures are duplicated.
What happens in mitosis?
The nucleus splits into two.
What happens in cytokinesis?
The cell membrane and cytoplasm divide - two new daughter cells are formed.
What are the factors that effect the rate of diffusion?
- Thickness of the membrane
- Temperature
- Concentration gradient
- Surface area of the membrane
What is the role of the mitochondria?
Where energy is releases in aerobic respiration.
What is the role of the ribosomes?
Where protein synthesis occurs.
What is the role of the permanent vacuole?
Stores cell sap and minerals.
What is a graticule?
A scale put on the lens of a microscope to measure the real size of objects in the microscope.
