Cell structures Flashcards
Nucleus
contains genetic material (chromosomes). Control how cells grow and work
Controls cell division
Cytoplasm
Supports cell structures
site for chemical reaction
has many solutes and water
cell membrane
holds cell together
controls the substances that enter and exit the cell
cell wall
supports cell extra and defines its shape
mitochondria
powerhouse of the cell. site for aerobic respiration and provides energy for the cell.
chloroplasts
site of photosynthesis, provide energy for plant
has chlrophyll pigments to absorb light which is needed for photosynsthesis
ribosomes
Site of protein production in protein synthesis
Vacuole
has cell sap, storage of certain materials and helps support shape of cell.
Difference of plant and animal cell
Plant: has chloroplasts, cell wall and can photosynthesis, large central vacuole
animal: no chloroplasts or cell wall and cant make its own food. not large, central vacuole
