Cell Specialisation Flashcards
What is a Specialised Cell?
A cell that has a special purpose alongside physical and chemical differences.
Name 5 different specialised Cells?
Sperm Cells, Nerve Cells, Muscle Cells, Root Hair Cells, Phloem and Xylem Cells.
What specialised features does a sperm cell have?
long tail, streamlined head to help it swim.
A lot of mitochondria in cell for energy.
What specialised features does a Nerve cell have?
These cells are long for a larger surface area, branched connections to connect them to other nerve cells in the network.
What specialised features does a muscle cell have?
They are long so that they have space to contract, they contain lots of mitochondria to generate energy for contracting.
What specialised features does a root hair cell have?
Big surface area for absorbing water and mineral ions from the soil.
What specialised features does a Phloem and Xylem cell have?
Xylem are hollow in the center to transport food and water around the plant and Phloem cells have very few subcellular structures.
