Cell Membrane/ Transportation Flashcards
Phospholipid
Make up cell membranes and are made of a glycerol and two fatty acids
Diffusion
Molecules diffuse from high concentration to lower concentration.
Facilitated diffusion
Is diffusion down their concentration gradient through transport proteins.
Passive transport
Does not require energy input from a cell
Active transport
Requires energy input from a cell and enables a cell to move a substance against its concentration gradient.
Fluid mosaic model
Describes the membrane because the variety of molecules in the membrane is similar to the arrangement of the colorful tiles with different textures and patterns.
Concentraion
How much a thing is close or far away from echother
Osmosis
The diffusion of water molecules across a semipermeable mebrane
Equilibrium
When the concentration is equal on each side
pH
The power of hydrogen the lower on the pH scare the more acidic the higher the more of a base.
Reaction rate
the speed at which a chemical reaction takes place
Catlyzed
Causes an increase in acceleration in a reaction.
Activation energy
The higher the activation energy the slower the reaction rate.
Amylse
Reactants
The substances that participate in the chemical reaction.
Proteins
Some help materials cross the membrane others are key components of the cytoskeleton
Carbohydrates
attach to the proteins for cells identification.
