cell cycle Flashcards
what does the G1 phase do?
growth and preparation
what does the S phase do?
duplication of DNA
what does the G2 phase do?
growth and preparation
what does G0 do?
quiescent cells that are specialised and don’t under mitosis
what does prophase do?
condense chromsomes
what does metaphase do?
align chromosomes in equator of cell and spindle fibres extend
what does anaphase do?
spindle fibres retract and chromosomes are split at centromere
what does telophase do?
development of nuclear membrane and chromosomes uncoil
what does cytokinesis do?
splitting of cytoplasm
what does the G1 checkpoint do?
check for DNA damage and growth patterns
what does G2 checkpoint do?
check for DNA replication and ensures cell is big enough to divide
what does the mitosis checkpoint do?
check for defects in the attachments of spindle fibres
what is apoptosis?
programmed cell death
what is the purpose of apoptosis?
removing unneeded tissue (webbing) or killing mutated cells
what is the purpose of mitosis?
for growth and repair
