- drugs with no therapeutic use
- cannabis (non-medicinal use), MDMA (‘ecstasy’) and LSD
- need a Home Office Licence to posses/supply/research
excemptions when pharmacists can take possession of Schedule 1 controlled drugs
- Taking possession of the CD for destruction
- Taking possession to hand it over to a police officer

- confidentiality should be maintained unless quantity is more than could be used for personal use
- no Sch 1 drug may be handed back to patient (unlawful supply)

Sch 2
- opiates (diamorphine, morphine, methadone) and major stimulants (amfetamines)
- license is needed to import or export these drugs
- pharmacist can supply to pt ONLY on the authority of a Rx in the required form, issued by an appropriate practitioner

safe custody requirements apply to all drugs in Sch 2 except quinalbarbital
** also applies to Schedule 2 CDs returned by patients, until they can be destroyed

** NICE advises that ALL CD invoices should be retained for 6 years for the purpose revenue and customs

less likely to be misused than Schedule 2 and if they are misused, are less likely to be harmful
safe custody and Sch 3

but all drugs are exempted except Temazepam, diethylpropion, buprenorphine and flunitrazepam
** any new drug added to Sch 3 has to be kept under safe custody unless specifically exempt
