CB1b Plant and Animal Cells Flashcards
Eukaryotic Cell (definition)
A cell with a nucleus
Cell membrane (function)
Controls what enters and leaves the cell
Nucleus (function)
Controls cell activities. Contains chromosomes tha contain DNA
Cytoplasm (function)
Contains a watery jelly and is where most cell activities occur
Mitochondria (function)
Jelly bean shaped structure where aerobic respiration occurs (difficult to see with a light microscope)
Ribosomes (function)
Tiny round structures that produce new proteins for a cell (it is impossble to see them with a light microscope)
Cell Wall (function; plant cell only)
Made of cellulose and supports and protects the cell
Chloroplasts (function; plant cell only)
Contain chlorophyll that absorbs energy transferred from the sun. The energy is used for photosynthesis
Vacuoles (function; plant cell only)
Large substance that stores cell sap used to keep the cell firm and rigid
