Step 1 of Practical
Collect a small specimen of the cells

Add stain or a drop of water to the centre of a microscope slide. Record the name of the stain you use. Place the specimen on the stain or water

Use a toothpick to slowly lower a coverslip onto the specimen
Step 4 of Practical
Examine your specimen under a microscope. Start with lowest magnification and work up to higher magnifications
Why is the coverslip lowered slowly at angle with a toothpick?
The slide is less likely to contain air bubbles
Why is a coverslip used?
The coverslip keeps the specimen flat, holds it in place and stops it from drying out
