What are Pilgrimages
Pilgrimages are journeys made to religiously significant places with a spiritual purpose
What are the purpose of Pilgrimages
. One may be to walk in the footsteps of Jesus
. An opportunity to connect better with ones faith
. Renew commitment to God
. Ask for forgiveness
Why do some people disagree with Pilgrimages
. Some see it as a holiday and forget the spiritual importance
. Pilgrimages can be to expensive or dangerous
. It cannot replace attending Mass
. Prayer does not have to take place at a Pilgrimage site, it can take place at home
What does the Catechism say about Pilgrimages
“The Church is not the only place for prayer, Pilgrimages promote renewal of prayer and can be special places for living prayer”

What is a Sacrament?
An outward sign of an inward gift, instituted by Christ, in order to give grace to a human being

. Creation is holy because God made it and Jesus walked upon it
. God isn’t physically with us but he lives through the Church and the Sacraments

. Baptism
. Confession

. Anointing of the Sick
How do we receive God’s Grace through the Sacraments
Baptism - Brings sanctifying grace to the soul, cleanses original sin and links the soul to love
Reconciliation - Removes the spiritual illness of sin, its restoring or strengthening the sanctifying grace that can be weekend through sin. It gives us strength not to fall into temptation of sin
Two ways Sacraments bring us closer to God
Baptism - Washing away sin is a sign of God’s loving forgiveness which makes God present
Eucharist - We are closer to God through the offer of mercy, forgiveness and advice given to the penitent

. Cleanses Catholics of Original Sin through Holy Water
. Brings sanctifying Grace to the soul and links the soul to God’s love

. We receive the fullness of Jesus through transubstantiation

Explain two forms of Popular Piety
Rosary - Latin (Rosarium) meaning ‘Crown of Roses’.
Used in private prayer and the prayers are split into sets called decades, people usually pray five decades in each session
Stations of the Cross - Series of prayers and meditations that honor the Passion and death of Jesus.
