What is Liturgical Worship
It is a structured public service between Catholics bringing them together with God
It redeems Catholics from sin making them more holy and living
Liturgy is something God does, Jesus is really present in liturgy. It is how Catholics take part in God’s work
Introductory rite
The community gathers and a sign of the cross is made. The Priests wears vestments to show he is the presence of Jesus. A Penitential Rite is said to confess sins and ask forgiveness from God
Liturgy of the Word
This is when readings are read from the Old and New Testaments, there is a theme to tie in with the time of year
The Homily
The Priest says a homily which relates to the Gospel story and how it relates to Catholics today. Prayers of the Faithful are then said asking God to help the world and the community today
Liturgy of the Eucharist
This is when people listen to Jesus and respond in prayer
the bread and wine are brought to the altar in the Offertory Procession along with the collection for the Church
The Liturgy of the Eucharist
The Priest says the Eucharist Prayer asking God to send down the Holy Spirit so that the bread and wine become the body and blood of Jesus. This is a process called transubstantiation
The Communion Rite
This is when people go up to receive Jesus. St Cyril said ‘make your left hand a throne for the right to receive your King.’
Concluding right
This is when the Priests blesses the people. They use the grace received at Mass to show God’s love in the world
Benefits of a Funeral
. Community prays for dead, do not face death alone
. Celebrations of dead persons life, we forgive them for the wrong they have done
. Community remember they are connected to each other by participating in the Eucharist
Vigil for the Deceased
The dead person is laid in a coffin where they are visited by family an friends. Prayers and readings are said by the Priest
Farewell or Commendation
This takes place in a graveyard, the final resting place. The family say goodbye but hope to see that person again in the after life

Communication with God which builds our relationship with him

There are set words an individual must say
