Q

What are the 3 principles of the cascade approach?

A
  1. development reflects the use of multiple mechanisms
  2. mechanisms of developmental change operate at many levels
  3. the emergence of any behaviour (any milestone) represents one point in an ongoing developmental cascade

Q

Example of domain specific

A

In an experiment child was surprised by the fact that a car was able to pass through a solid wall. This is the idea of solidity and they know that objects cannot pass through solid things.

Similarly, the child was surprised to find a ball under another box which suggests the idea of continuity and that a child expects to find the ball where it was last seen.

Q

What is perceptual narrowing?

A

The tuning of the infant brain to their own environment.

6 month olds can discriminate between both human and monkey faces

By 10 months we can only reliably distinguish between the humans
