Social perception
Looking at people’s facial expressions/posture/ tone of voice/ what is said so carers can recognise accurately an individuals feelings/intentions/needs
Working alongside service users
Doing the same activity as the individuals in order to provide motivation and encouragement by taking part in the same activity the caret is seen more an equal than as a threat
Modelling
Showing only socially acceptable behaviour in a situation so that individuals will learn to act in a similar way
Setting challenges
This involves suggesting achievable tasks and activities that will stimulate the individual. Helps to improve abilities, skills and confidence
Encouragement
The care worker tries to motivate and support the individual through difficult time and procedures to reinforce behaviour that increases their health and well being
Showing approval
The care worker gives a positive response to a persons actions by smiling or giving praise
Physical contact
(Only when appropriate) roughing a hand or arm may convey a caring attitude providing comfort and support. Reassuring. Mental security
Creating trust
Care worker builds relationships by maintaining confidentiality and being consistent and reliable by keeping promises
Gaining compliance
Getting someone to agree and a recommended course of action the care worker needs to get the individual to do what is required. Compromise.
Distraction
Thai is used to manage temporary pain and anxiety because they are not do using on the discomfort
Disengagement
Breaking an exchange or contact for a short period to “cool off” calms down a heated discussion
Safe working practices
Care workers are trained to work safely to endure they protect themselves and individuals in their care
Observation
Pro active in the care of individuals.
