Cardiovascular System (Key terms) Flashcards
1
Q
The heart- description
A
- 4 chambers
- Right Atrium/ Left Atrium.
- Right ventricle/ Left ventricle.
Ventricles have all the power!!!!
- Atriums and ventricles are separated by valves to prevent backflow.
- Left side and right side are separated by the septum.
2
Q
Define the systemic system
A
- Pumps oxygenated blood to the muscles (O2 gets used) and deoxygenated blood back again.
3
Q
Define the pulmonary system
A
- Pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs (gets saturated with O2) and oxygenated blood back again.
4
Q
Define Heart rate
A
- The number of times the heart beats per minute.
- Average= 72 bpm.
5
Q
Define Stroke volume
A
- The volume of blood pumped out by the left ventricle per beat.
- Average 70 ml.
6
Q
Define cardiac output
A
- The volume of blood pumped out by the left ventricles per minute.
- Calculated by the following:
Q= SV x HR
Average= 5,040
