Cardiovascular disorders Flashcards
what is hypovolemic shock
loss of circulating blood
what is cardiogenic shock
inability of the heart to maintain cardiac output to the circulation
what is distributive, vasogenic, neurogenic shock
vasodilation owing to loss of sympathetic and vasomotor tone
what is anaphylactic shock
systemic vasodilation and increased permeability owing to severe allergic reaction
what is septic (endotoxic) shock
vasodilation owing to severe infection, often with gram negative bacteria
what are some manifestations of shock
- anxiety and restlessness
- tachycardia
- cool, pale, moist skin
- thirst
- rapid respirations
- metabolic acidosis secretion
what does the cardiac centre in the medulla oblongata control
rate and force of contraction
what do baroreceptors detect
changes in BP
what does sympathetic stimulation do
increases heart rate
what does parasympathetic stimulation do
decreases heart rate
what is congestive heart failure
the heart is unable to pump out sufficient blood to meet the metabolic demands of the body (blood and oxygen)
what is left sided systolic heart failure
the contraction of the muscle wall of the left ventricle malfunctions, compromising its pumping action
what is left sided diastolic heart failure
the left ventricle muscle wall is unable to relax normally as the muscle has become stiff
what is right sided heart failure
blood backup in circulatory system, causing fluid retention
