Cardiomyopathy Flashcards
1
Q
Dilated cardiomyopathy
A
most common–impaired contraction of ventricles (systolic dysfunction)
may be caused by viruses (myocarditis) or genes
2
Q
hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
A
severe thickening of ventricle (affects diastolic dysfunction)
–affects ventricle filling and possible outflow obstruction
–internal size usually normal or reduced
–cardiac output normal perserved but leads to HF, arrthymias, LVOT obstruction and abnormal muscle growth
“athletes sudden death”
–surgery and ICD often adequate tx
3
Q
Restrictive Cardiomyopathy
A
severely impaired ventricle filling–diastolic dysfunction
- marked artrial enlargement
- leads to Pulm HTN or clots
- -least common but always needs transplant
