Cardiomyopathy Flashcards
Cardiomyopathy?
Primary disease of the myocardium, cardiomyopathy may be dilated, hypertrophic restrictive.
Cardiomyopathy risk factors for dilated?
post-viral myocarditis, alcohol, drugs, familial, thyrotoxicosis, haemochromatosis, peripartum
Cardiomyopathy risk factors for hypertrophic?
50% are genetic
Cardiomyopathy risk factors for restrictive?
amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, haemochromatosis
Cardiomyopathy symptoms dilated?
symptoms of heart failure, arrhythmias, thromboembolism, family hist of sudden death.
Cardiomyopathy symptoms hypertrophic?
usually no symptoms, syncope, angina, arrhythmias, fam hist of sudden death.
Cardiomyopathy symptoms restrictive?
dyspnoea, fatigue, arrhythmias, ankle or abdo swelling, fam hist of sudden death.
Cardiomyopathy signs dilated?
raised JVP, displaced apex beat, functional mitral and tricuspid regurgitations, third heart sound.
Cardiomyopathy signs hypertrophy?
jerky carotid pulse, double apex beat, ejection systolic murmur
Cardiomyopathy signs restrictive?
raised JVP, palpable apex beat, third heart sound, ascites, ankle oedema, hepatomegaly
Cardiomyopathy investigations CXR?
cardiomegaly and signs of heart failure
Cardiomyopathy investigations ECG?
all types have no-specific ST changes, conduction defects, arrhythmias, restrictive has low voltage complexes, hypertrophic has left axis deviation.
ECG of dilated
Cardiomyopathy investigations echocardiography?
dilated has dilated ventricles with global hypokinesia, hypertrophic has ventricular hypertrophy, restrictive has normal ventricles but atrial enlargement, diastolic dysfunction
left Axis deviation ECG?
