Cardiomyopathy Flashcards
Major Criteria For IE Dx
+ blood culture
New/ changed murmur
Intracardiac mass/ vegetation
Most Common Cause of Sudden Death ( healthy young ppl)
Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM)
Pericarditis
Hallmark
Pericardial friction run
Coronary arteries are pro fused during
Diastole
Occlusion of the right coronary artery –>
Infarction -- inferior & posterior LV Affects conduction (SA & AV nodes)--> inferior wall MI
CMP
Cardiomyopathy
Cardiomyopathy
grp of myocardium (heart muscle) diseases that affect structure and function
chronic
Leading cause of heart transplantation
CMP
Primary cause of CMP
Idiopathic (unknown)
Most common type of CM
Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) Eventually leads to HF
DCM (Causes)
Often occurs after infection myocarditis
Possible autoimmune process
DCM
Decreased contractility
Ventricular dilation
Inflam. & rapid degen. of myocardial fibers
Dilated, enlarged ventricles/ Atria –>Cardiomegaly
Thinned Wall
Systolic Dysfunx –>decreased CO
Stasis of blood in LV
Characteristics of DCM
Symptoms Of DCM
Activity intolerance, fatigue, weakness Dyspnea at rest, PND, orthopnea Dry cough Palpitations Abdominal bloating, anorexia, N/V
Signs of Dilated Cardiomyopathy
Irregular HR, S3/S4, murmur
Crackles
Edema, weak peripheral pulses, pallor
Hepatomegaly, Emboli
