Cardiac Worksheet Review (Exam 1) Flashcards
When rhythm becomes irregular or the frequency of the atrial and ventricular beats are different.
Arrhythmias
Heart rate that is too fast.
Tachycardia
Heart rate that is too slow.
Bradycardia
Pace Maker of the Heart
SA Node
Which valve separates the right atrium and right ventricle?
Tricuspid Valve
Which valve separates the left atrium and left ventricle?
Mitral Valve
Which valve separates right ventricle and pulmonary artery?
Pulmonary Valve
Which valve separates left ventricle and aorta?
Aortic Valve
What occurs when a valve is not working properly?
It is diseased or damaged.
The valves may not be working correctly.
Name something that can cause chronic valve disease?
Rheumatic Fever, Bacteria, Viruses, Inflammation
What is the difference between stenosis and insufficiency?
Stenosis is the narrowing and hardening of the valves.
Insufficiency is the valves ability to not completely seal correctly.
What do the coronary arteries do?
Supply blood flow to the heart, and to ensure adequate oxygenation.
What causes CAD(Coronary Artery Disease)?
Arteries become clogged causing poor blood flow.
What is pulmonary edema?
Edema of the Lungs.
Why is pulmonary edema different than other types?
Do not want to compress the edema because it will cause more stress and pressure on the heart.
What is the number one cause of heart failure?
CAD
What is another cause of heart failure?
Myocardial Infarction
What is considered hypertension?
140-159 Systolic
90-99 Diastolic
Name a medication to be aware that a patient is taking when doing cardiac rehab.
Beta Blockers
HR and BP stay the same while on this medication not an accurate way to assess vitals during exercises.
