Cardiac Health Flashcards
what is cardiac health
cardiac health is the state of health of our heart and blood vessels
what happens if the blood flow slowed or stopped
the body will not get oxygen or food
how does blood flow slows down or even slows down
it happens when there is blockage in the blood vessel
what is plaque
plaque are forming substances built up in the walls of arteries by substances such as fats and cholesterol when the blockage in the blood vessel occurs
what happens when plaque is found in the artery
the blood supply to the heart muscles is cut off
what happens when the heart muscles do not receive oxygen and stops pumping ? what can this result in?
this can result in an heart attack
how will a stroke occur
a stroke occurs when the blockage is an artery that supplies blood and the brain is cut off
how can we feel and observe our blood flow
- we can feel our pulse on our wrist or at the side of our neck
- feeling our heartbeat
- measuring our blood pressure
how can we monitor our cardiac attack
- heart rate
- blood pressure
what is a heart rate
a heart rate refers to the number of times the heart beats per minute
how is a pulse created
- when our heart beats , it pushes blood out into our arteries
- the contraction of muscles on the artery wall creates a pulse in the arteries
how can we feel our pulse rate ?
we can feel our pulse on our wrist or the side of our necks
how can we measure our pulse rate
counting the number of pulses we feel in one minute
