Effects digoxin?
-Slows down the heart rate
-Increases BP and tissues perfusion
Clinical priorities
-Always check the apical pulse hold if HR is less than 60 in adults and less than 100 in infants.
-therapeutic level is 1-2. if greater than 2, client is digoxin toxic
Clinical priorities: Signs of digoxin toxicity is?
Children s/s toxicity?
The client will see yellow spots, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. WARNING the signs of toxicity in infant is Bradycardia.
What electrolyte must the nurse monitor for a patient taking digoxin?
Nurse must monitor potassium levels. A low potassium level can increase the risk of digoxin toxicity.
What to give if client becomes toxic?
Activated charcoal or Digoxin Immune fab.
