Q

Clinical Priorities

A

1) The three classes of adrenal corticosteroids are glucocorticoids, mineral corticoid, & androgens All 3 classes are usually decreased.

2) An Addisonian crisis is a life-threatening emergency caused by a sudden sharp decrease in the corticosteroids. Treatment is directed towards shock management & high doses of hydrocortisone replacement. IV fluids are also administered.

3) The most common hormone therapy is hydrocortisone because it has glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid properties..
