Cardiac Cycle Flashcards
What is the cardiac cycle?
The events between the start of one heart beat to the next
What is the atrial pressure in passive filling?
Close to 0
What happens in passive filling?
AV valves open so venous return flows into the ventricles
What is aortic pressure in passive filling?
80mmHg
What percentage of the ventricles are filled in passive filling?
80%
What signals atrial depolarisation on an ECG?
The P wave
When do the atria contract on an ECG?
Between the P wave and the QRS
What does atrial contraction do?
Completes the EDV
When does ventricular contraction occur on the ECG?
After the QRS
What happens to the pressure in isovolumetric ventricular contraction?
Ventricular pressure rises, when it exceeds atrial pressure the AV valves shut
Why is there no blood movement in isovolumetric contraction?
The aortic valve is still shut and pressure rises
When does ventricular ejection occur?
When the ventricular pressure exceeds aorta/pulmonary artery pressure and the Aortic and Pulmonary valves open
What happens to aortic pressure in ventricular ejection?
Rises
What signals ventricular repolarisation on the ECG?
The T wave
What happens to ventricular pressure in ventricular ejection
Starts to fall after ejection
