cardiac cycle Flashcards
where is blood oxygenated?
lungs
what brings oxygenated blood back to the heart?
pulmonary vein
whats the left AV?
left atrioventricular valve (bicuspid - 2 flaps)
whats the right AV?
right atrioventricular valve (tricuspid - 3 flaps)
what does the aorta do?
carries oxygenated blood to the muscles and organs
how does blood get to the aorta?
through the left ventricle
what enters the right atrium and what blood vessel is used?
deoxygenated blood enters the right atrium through the vena cava
where is deoxygenated blood forced out of and into what?
forced out of the right ventricle and into the pulmonary artery
where does the pulmonary artery carry the blood to and why?
to the lungs for oxygenation
cardiac cycle
cardiac muscle contraction and blood moving through the chambers 1 complete cardiac cycle = 1 heart beat
diastole
relaxing/filling
systole
contraction/emptying
SL valve
separates arteries from ventricles
atrial diastole (0.4 secs)
blood enters the atrium and pressure builds with more blood
ventricular diastole
pressure forces AV valves open approx 70% blood moves into ventricles (passive filling)
