Pre cath care
Apical pulse 1 minute, HGB (12-18) and HCT (37-56%), pulses, NPO, HOLD DIGOXIN, IV if patient is polycythemic
Post cath care
Apical pulse, VS q 15m x 1 hour, pulses below site, temp and color, BLEEDING
Cath education
Dressing for 24 hrs, clean and dry site, observe for redness/bleeding/swelling/drainage, temp, avoid strenuous exercise, follow up appointments, resume pre procedure meds
increased blood viscosity. Keep well hydrated, increased risk for stroke, clubbing of nails if long term
polycythemia
chronic hypoxemia can cause

Mixture defects (3)
transposition of the great arteries, truncus arteriosis, total anomalous pulmonary venous return

Cyanotic defects (3)
tetrology of fallot, transposition of the great arteries, hypoplastic left heart syndrome
