Cardiac Arrest Flashcards
post sudden cardiac arrest temperature management lasts for:
body temp of <36 C for 24-48 hrs post SCA
(avoid fever)
decreases mortality and improves neurological recovery
When to do temperature management
unreponsive or lack purposeful movements following SCA as soon as possible
Absolute contraindications to temperature management
pt wishes against aggressive care or scenario where care would be futile
how to do temperature management
cold saline, topical cooling blankets
SCA stands for
sudden cardiac death
targe blood sugar in post SCA
140-180
helps improve neurological recovery
target BP in post SCA
MAP >80
Capnography is measurement of
CO2 partial pressure in exhaled breath overtime. Max Co2 concetnration at end of each tidal breath (end tidal CO2) provides information about ventilation and perfusion in pts undergoing CPR.
What causes sudden increase in end tidal CO2?
return of spontaneous circulation and rapid transport of CO2 and see this in sudden rise in EtCO2
stop CPR’
If EtCO2 can help determine prognosis if <10mmHg after 20 minutes of CPR unlikely to achieve ROSC.
can put IO or intraosseus cannulation in the following areas:
bone marrow of the long bones, proximal femur, tibia, proximal humerus, distal tibia, and sternal manubrium) and they provid IV acess via the medullary sinuses. These veins are in the boney matrix and unlike peripheral central veins, these do not collapse in hypovolumia or profound shock. This allows for rapid IV access or veins
