Cardiac Flashcards
What is a cardiovascular aneurysm?
Weakening of artery wall that results in bulging or dilation of vessel
Causes of Aneurysms
Arteriosclerosis
Degenerative vascular disease
Infection
Collagen vascular diseases
Trauma
Family history
Aneurysm Risk Factors
Arteriosclerosis
Smoking
Hypertension
Family history
Aortic Aneurysm
Pain in back, flank, or abs, bruit
Angina in Women
Dyspnea, diaphorisis, feeling faint, dizziness, extreme fatigue, heartburn
Myocardial Infarction
Prolonged ischemia without recovery
MI Causes
Atherosclerosis plaques rupture and clogs artery
Thrombis clogs coronary artery
Valve stenosis
Hypertension
Heart Dysthymia: AV block
Caused by anterior or inferior wall
Prolonged PR intervals
Heart Dysthymia: A-fib
Multiple irregular P waves
If also tachy decompensation of ventricle and ischemia
Can lead to stroke
Heart Dysthymia: PVC
Common
Lack P ot T wave, wide QRS
More than 10 per hour increases mortality
HTN
Increased BP
Silent killer
2 or more diastolic >80
Systolic >130
BP Normal
Normal <120. <80
Embolus
Clot or undisclosed mass that is CARRIED through circulatory system until it reaches and area to small to allow it to pass
What does chronic blood loss anemia indicate?
Iron-deficency anemia
What is aplastic anemia?
Insufficient or absent RBC production
