Q

cold core low?and how to identify?

A

Common in polare fron depression

If its a low the the line bulge down at the bottom and for the cold part the line bulge down aloft. (Pointing downwards).

Basic rules : high&raquo_space;bulge up
Low&raquo_space;bulge down

                  Warm >>>bulge up
                  Cold>>> bulge down

Q

Orographic low/depression?

A

Wind blowing more or less at right angle to the mountain.
Windward side: air compressed (localised high pressure)
Lee side: suction effect (low pressure)

Q

Cold core HIGH and warm core HIGH

A

COLD CORE HIGH: cold surface temp makes the lower troposhpere cold and dense.Pressure level bulge up at lower levels, bulge downcat high levels.

WARM CORE HIGH: excess air in the upper troposphere, warm and less dense.pressure levels bulge up at both upper and lower levels.
