ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE Flashcards
1
Q
What is a col ?and ancicilonic/cyclonic col?
A
A col is neutral area between two highs and lows.
Anticlonic col is when the pressure around a high is eleongated
Cyclonic col is when low pressure axis is eleongated
2
Q
Weather in neutral cols?
A
Col is dominated by the characteristics of the particular air mass but is often
thundery in summer and dull or foggy in winter
3
Q
What is Trough and caretteristics of it?
A
• A trough (of low pressure) is characterized by a system of isobars which are concave towards a DEPRESSION • Troughs are generally marked by cloudy, showery weather
4
Q
WhaT IS a RIDGE AND IS characteristic?
A
• A ridge (of high pressure), also termed a 'wedge', is an extension of an ANTICYCLONE or high-pressure area • It is the converse of a TROUGH of low pressure and is generally associated with fair, anticyclonic- type weather
5
Q
Is QNH greater or smaller than QFF been above sea level with +isa ?
A
QNH> QFF
