A
Highly invasive and destructive neoplasms.

What is a neoplasm?
A
Cells formed from irreversible deviant cell division

What is a tumour?
A
A collection of cells which have lost control of proliferation and differentiation.
- Benign - localised and closely resembling cells of origin - loss of proliferation
- Malignant - invasive and destructive cells that do not resemble cells of origin. Invades nearby tissues and can metastasise.

What causes cancer?
A
Occurs due to unrepaired gene malfunction.
Cancer alters genes that control reproduction, proliferation, differentiation and cell apoptosis.
