CAM Flashcards
What does CAM stand for?
Computer aided manufacture
What does CAM actually do?
It converts drawings that have been designed using a CAD system into actual products
what are the main machines used in CAM’s?
- Lathes
- Routers
- Milling machines
- Laser cutters
What are some advantages of CAM’s?
- the costs aren’t that bad once considering selling the product
- the machines are able to work 24/7
- The machines used can ensure products are made accurately.
What do lathes cut and what are the applications of it?
They cut metals, it can produce accurate and complex shapes that would be difficult to do by hand
What do routers cut and what are the applications of it?
They cut wood and foam, it can produce 2D and 3D shapes while being used for block modelling
What do milling machines cut and what are the applications of it?
They cut metals as well as lathes, but they produce flat and complex curved shapes
What do laser cutters cut and what are the applications of it?
They cut plastics, card and also wood with an intense beam of light, while also being able to cut both simple and complex shapes.
