CAD Flashcards
What does CAD stand for?
Computer aided design
does CAD design 2D or 3D models?
Both
What does CAD actually do?
It allows you to draw various components that are then joined together on screen to give you an in depth analysis to what needs to be developed and designed.
What are the main modelling and prototyping aspects used in CAD?
Block modelling - These are 3D models created from certain materials such as ABS and acrylic to make it look like the real thing
Rapid prototyping using CAD - this involves the creation of 3D objects using laser technology to solidify liquid plastic polymers or resins using stereilitiography.
What are some advantages of 2D desinging
- highly accurate drawings
- easy to edit drawings
- easy to store drawings
What are some disadvantages of 2D designing
- high set up cost
- files can be lost if not backed up
- high quality training required
What is an advantage of 3D desinging
- can see around an object at 360 degress
What is a disadvantage of 3D designing
- high set up costs
