C7- Types of feedback Flashcards
Describe Intrinsic feedback
- happens within the performer
- Information received by the athletes kinaesthetic senses (dominant response)
- Accurately performed technique gives internal feeling of satisfaction
Name some advantages of intrinsic feedback
- Immediate
- Performer doesn’t need to rely on others
- good for autonomous performers
Name some disadvantages of intrinsic feedback
- Cognitive learners may not benefit as they might not have the correct dominant response yet
- Performers interpret movement better than others
Describe extrinsic feedback
- External source of feedback
- during or after performance
- teachers, coaches, team mates
- correct = can improve performance and motivate
- incorrect = can deteriorate performance and demotivate
Name some advantages of extrinsic feedback
- more objective
- get feedback on knowledge of results (how well you have done)
- get feedback on knowledge of performance (how to improve technique
Name some disadvantages of extrinsic feedback
- can be negative and demotivate
- Becomes outcome focused
- over reliant on feedback
describe Positive feedback
-extrinsic and involves information that rewards or praises a performance
- helps strengthen SR bond
Name some advantages of positive feedback
- SR bond is strengthened (correct dominant response)
- motivating for cognitive performers
Name some disadvantages of positive feedback
- Wrong SR bond if not deserved
- total reinforcement is bad
Describe negative feedback
- criticism of performance and may be centred around poor aspects of a performance or result
Name some advantages of negative feedback
- beneficial to autonomous performers
- performer will know what to improve
Name some disadvantages of negative feedback
- can be demotivating at the cognitive stage
Describe knowledge of performance
- focuses on how well the athlete performed and the quality and pattern of movement
Describe knowledge of results
- Knowledge of end result
- important to know result of their actions
What is the difference between terminal and continuous feedback
- continuous is when feedback is received during the skill or performance
- terminal is when feedback is received after completion of the skill or performance.
What are the key factors to giving effective feedback
- objective data
- immediate feedback
- has meaning for individual
- make the negative feedback individual
- limit amount of info given
- facilitates intrinsic feedback
