Describe Operant conditioning (6)
A
- behaviour learned through association
- Trial and error
- Give positive reinforcement (S-R bond strengthened so a correct dominant response is created)
-Thorndikes law:
law of exercise - Encourage repetition to acquire skill
law of effect - positive outcome = repeat of behaviour
law of readiness - physical, emotional state of learner

- Also known as gestalt theory
- Present skill as whole
- Problem solving
- realistic situation
example: Basketball player told why to use zonal defence but not when to use the tactic

A
- also known as Observational learning
- Copying behaviour of others
- usually high status role models like professionals
- Demonstrations need to be of a high standard
- Banduras ARMM
Attention: Focusing on important cues
Retention: Learner must remember demo
Motivated: learner must have drive to learn skill
Motor Reproduction: Must be physically and mentally capable to performer the skill

Give two disadvantages of the cognitive learning theory

- Skill may be to complexed for beginner to learn as whole
- Skill may be too dangerous for a beginner to learn as whole
