Q

Why are some metals found in the Earth as they are? Why is it harder to discover others?

A

Reactivity.
Gold is unreactive so exists as it is in the Earth.
Other elements such as sodium are more reactive so harder to discover!

Q

When is reduction used? When is electrolysis used?

A

Reduction is used when the metal is less reactive than carbon so the metal ore can be reduced by the carbon, which is oxidised.
Electrolysis is used for more reactive metals.
